Lot 430: 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible

Fine Motor Cars, Coys (5th July 2008)

1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible
The Jaguar XJ-S had been under development since 1968 and as a 2+2 fixed head coupe it was intended as a replacement for the now legendary E Type. From the beginning it was only available with the V12 engine which gave excellent performance with 0-60mph being dispatched in a very respectable 6.9 seconds allied to a top speed of 150mph. Later in the XJ-S's life it was also available with a six cylinder engine and a manual gearbox. As with any vehicle that has had as long a production life as the XJ-S, there have been major developments. Two of the more significant ones for the XJ-S were the launch of the Cabriolet in 1983 and later, in May 1988, the Convertible. Manufactured in 1989, the previous owner of this particular example was Bellway plc and it was bought by the current owner in October 1997 having completed only 31,000 miles. Since then it has covered just another 4,900 miles and all the MoT test certificates which are supplied with the car confirm the mileage as genuine. The service record shows regular maintenance before, almost all of which was carried out by Jaguar main dealers; the vehicle has also been kept in a heated garage for the last eight years. A full major service at 34,809 miles has recently been carried out by H.A Fox in Worcester, the local Jaguar dealer, and at the same time Fox also gave this Jaguar a thorough check-over and replaced engine hoses and rear suspension linkages. Invoices for all this are available. Documentation supplied with the car includes a V5 registration document, MoT certificates from 2000 to 2008, including a current one valid until May 2009, and the service bill for £1,519 from H.A Fox. Finished in metallic dark blue with a sand interior, this XJ-S is described as being in good condition with the engine, chassis, interior and transmission reported as all being in excellent order.
