Lot 131: Cadillac Series 61 Fastback
Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (11th December 2007)
The 1948 Cadillac range introduced the modest fin on the trailing edge of the rear wing. It is not surprising to learn that, during the war years, Harley Earl, Franklin, Mitchell, Hershey and Art Ross were influenced by there sneak preview of the, top secret, Lockheed P38 "Lightning" fighter. The Ponton style front and rear fenders, curved screen and those tail fins were all influenced by aircraft design while this team were experimenting with post war designs during the war years.Offered here is a Sedanet, otherwise known as the Fastback Coupe version of the 1948 Series Sixty One. The beautifully graceful "Fastback" predates the R Type Bentley Continental by 4 years and the aerodynamic styling is way ahead of its time.Finished in ivory with brown and beige interior, the car is equipped with a 346 cubic inch, flat head V8, which is mated to an automatic transmission. The car is described as being in excellent, predominately original condition although it has benefited from some restoration and is believed to have covered just 35284 miles in 59 years.
