Lot 233: Porsche 964/911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Tiptronic

Sports, Sports Touring, Competition & Grand Prix, Coys (8 August 2009)

In the late Eighties Porsche finally realised that they could not kill the 911 model such was the demand and so they began an intensive development programme. Thus in early 1990 the 964 series was born representing a major evolutionary step with 85% of the car being new. Porsche wanted a quieter, more powerful engine that was suitable for use in all world markets. The result was the Type M64/01, fitted with a new flat six engine with ceramic cylinder head liners and a lightweight crankshaft. As a result, displacement was now 3.6 litres exactly, and output rose to 250bhp at 6100rpm.

The model featured power steering, anti lock brakes, revised suspension, and low drag bodywork complete with retractable rear spoiler. The new car received much adulation from the motoring press as being the safest, best balanced and most stable 911 yet whilst remaining an exhilarating drive with more performance than ever.

Originally delivered in Munich in October 1990 to German specification this 911 was un-registered for road use until 1st March 1996. With only 80,000 kilometres recorded the car is described as being in excellent condition throughout. The car is supplied with a UK V5 registration document, MoT certificate valid until December '09, mileage verification certificate, emissions test results, Porsche letter of origin, new alarm/immobiliser/tracker receipts, owner's manual and very recent full service receipts. Finished in polar silver metallic with the original colour scheme of a magenta hood and interior, the hood is brand new and finished to the exact specification of the original. Recent new parts include new air condition compressor, battery, alarm and alternator. A wonderful example of this legendry air cooled supercar.
