Lot 355: 1967 Jaguar E Type Series 1 ½ 2+2
The Jaguar Legend, Coys (18th June 2005)
When unveiled by Jaguar in 1956, the E Type caused a sensation on the newsreels and in the motoring press. For here was not only an ultra-modern looking replacement for the XK150, which was beginning to show its age by then, but a production sportscar which in its appearance appeared to follow so many styling cues of the by then legendary D Type Le Mans racer.Snapped up in the showrooms from 1961, the E Type employed ground breaking monocoque-construction cloaked in aerodynamically slippery panels in either open roadster or closed coupe form, initially with headlamps fared-in behind covers. Powered by the familiar 3.8-litre six, though soon with capacity increased to 4.2, an E Type could transport an owner up to 150mph for less than 2100!Made in Coventry in 1967, this Jaguar E Type, a Series 1 2+2 two-door coupe, is claimed by the vendor and confirmed by the Heritage Certificate on file to be to very original specification and, being a right-hand drive automatic transmission model, quite rare too. For although the fixed head bodywork has been repainted recently, the green used is claimed to be the original colour, while the green hide interior is said to be both original and lovely. The 4.2-litre engine bay has been detailed at some time and there are wire wheels.Taxed for virtually a full year, the documents file contains V5 and new MOT, the latest certificate valid until 2006, as well as an impressive batch of fourteen old MOTs, an original buff-type logbook and many former bills dating back to 1984 which detail what has been extensive work carried out. Even more noteworthy, and also unusual for any E Type in an auction, our clients should be aware that SYC 80F is being sold entirely without any reserve.
