Lot 79: Jaguar MkII 3.4 MOD

In 1959 Jaguar launched a new range of compact saloons collectively known as the MkII. In the middle of the new range was the MkII 3.4 litre which featured the 3442cc XK engine, as used in the previous 3.4 Saloon, which was now referred to as the MkI. The 3.4 litre had excellent performance (120mph top speed) and, like its smaller and bigger engined stablemates, was clothed in one of the finest looking saloon car bodies ever made. Production of the MkII 3.4 ended in 1967, although a cheaper version, the 340, continued to sell until 1969.First registered in March 1967, this particular car has had just four owners from new. Said to be very presentable with a sound structure and no obvious rust, it has recently benefited from a full brake overhaul with new copper pipes throughout. A new radiator and front subframe have also recently been fitted.The engine and manual overdrive gearbox are both described as 'excellent' with the paintwork 'very presentable' and the interior 'good'. Fitted with a full stainless steel exhaust system, the car rides on colour coded wire wheels that echo the racing Jags of the 1960s but also comes with a spare set of chrome wire wheels if preferred. All tyres are said to be excellent.Due to have a fresh MOT before the sale and said to drive very well, this appears to be an attractive example of Jaguar's iconic sports saloon at a very realistic guide price.
