Lot 108: Jaguar 240 Saloon (MKII 2.4)

After 8 years in production the MKII, together with the whole Jaguar saloon car range, was getting near the end of production. By 1969, the only saloon being built by Jaguar was the new XJ6, replacing the S-Type, 420 and 240/340 compact saloons. To keep the MKII in production for 1967 and 1968 Jaguar made some major costs cutting changes to the specification. Out went leather interiors, replaced with Ambla (vinyl), out went the heavy fluted bumpers, in came slim-line blades and the driving lights were replaced by dummy air vents. Only 6000 rhd and 1265 lhd 240/340 cars were built, making them extremely rare.This 1968 240 is said to have had only one previous owner and has been in the second owners care for 23 years. It has been equipped with a stainless steel exhaust, reupholstered seats and is described as being in good condition throughout.Finished in midnight blue with red interior the car has the 2.4 litre version of the XK engine, which has the later straight port head. The transmission is manual with overdrive and the indicated 51600 miles is thought, by the vendor, to be correct.
