Lot 235: 1977 Mercedes-Benz 350SL

After the successful era of the 230, 250 and 280SL series it became apparent to Mercedes-Benz that a new model would be required. This was due not only to changing tastes and styles but more importantly ever increasing safety and emission controls. With this in mind, the new model would have to be stronger, heavier and therefore require a larger engine. In October 1970 Mercedes presented the 350 SL, an open-top two-seat Roadster featuring a 3.5 litre V8, as its name implies, and code-named Mercedes-Benz R107. The car stayed in production until 1989, when it was finally superseded by the R129 SL. This brand new SL-range had an extremely controversial design - way ahead of its time, this benchmark roadster had its own special unique appeal, offering (for the time and nevertheless now too) extremely powerful and refined performance. The R107 range has a unique lasting appeal owing to its sophisticated design and counterparts. Manufactured in 1977 this automatic 350SL is finished in Metallic silver with a blue leather interior. The car features all the comforts you would expect from a Mercedes Benz including power steering, central locking, electric windows and mirrors and an electric hood. The car also features alloy wheels and a radio/cassette. The car is supplied with bills and some service history as well as a V5 document and current MoT valid until July next year
