Lot 232: Bentley Turbo R

The 135 mph Bentley Turbo R was launched at the Geneva Show in March, 1985. It was said that the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo should remain in production too but it soon became apparent that the Mulsanne Turbo was totally outclassed by the Bentley Turbo R. Modified front and rear suspension, the first-time use of alloy wheels, wider tyres, and a front air dam put the car's handling in the thoroughbred sports car category. The Bentley Turbo R achieved a sales figure which made it one of Rolls-Royce's best-ever selling models, which is probably why it remained in production until 1994.With its 6.7 litre V8 engine and Garret Air Search turbo charger, the Turbo R produced vast amounts of power while the aforementioned handling modifications and uprated brakes took care of the road manners. This was a seriously sporting Bentley.A fine example of the model which is also equipped with , special order, St. James red hide and has been serviced as recently as May this year. The car is taxed through to January 2007 and MoT'd until May, which means that, subject to insurance, a new owner can drive it home.
