Lot 20: Triumph GT6 Mk3

H&H are indebted to the vendor for the following description: "These early MK3 GT6 coupes are widely considered to be the most desirable of the breed, benefiting from the Rotoflex lower wishbone independent rear suspension. This example is also fitted with optional overdrive operating on 3rd and 4th gears. Being a 1972 registered car it is eligible for historic class (free) road tax. The Triumph was first registered on September 19th 1972 to Fredrick William Henry Jackett of The Sergeants Mess, The Rifle Depot, Winchester. There is a DLVA printout showing all keepers from new and a British Motor Heritage certificate has been applied for. The impressive history file shows in the region of £15,000 being spent on the car since 1988 including a `body off chassis up' restoration by Central Spitfires which cost £4,450 in 1990-91. The next owner purchased the car in 1996 and extensively modified it for fast road / sprint use. As well as a TR6 block / crankshaft, the 2.5 litre engine boasts a fast-road camshaft, Stage 3 cylinder head, lightened flywheel, roller rocker assembly, Lumenition ignition, oil cooler, facet electric fuel pump, alloy radiator, electric cooling fan, JTS inlet manifold, triple SU carburettors, heat wrapped exhaust manifold and stainless steel semi-sports exhaust. While, suspension upgrades include a poly bush kit, Spax adjustable shock absorbers, uprated front springs and a rear anti-roll bar. Servo-assisted, the drilled front brake discs are grabbed by 4-pot callipers. Riding on 14-inch Compomotive ML Comp minilite-style alloy wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE720 185/60 14 tyres, the GT6 sports a USA-spec front spoiler, Moto-Lita steering wheel, Sony CD/Radio, Vitaloni `Californian' door mirrors and period-style racing seats. In addition to the tuning work, there are receipts for diff, gearbox, overdrive, trim kit etc. Over the years this car has been extensively gone through. There are 23 MOT certificates dating back to 1984 at which time the mileage was 72,175. In 1987 this had jumped to 92,272. The indicated mileage when the major engine work was completed was around 30,000. The mileage reading as of 9th October 2009 is 35,639".
