Lot 173: c.1990 Puch 49cc Maxi Super Plus
Professor Fritz Ehn Motorcycle Museum Collection, Bonhams (30th June 2008)
Puch became a household name throughout the world in the mid-twentieth century with their smart and durable mopeds, in particular the Maxi. Indeed, this was at one time the worlds best-selling moped. Times grew harder, however, and the Porsche Design team was called in to re-vamp this classic, the smooth result announced as the Maxi Super Plus. To a smooth linear frame was added a re-styled lamp, seat and driveline housings as well as a more powerful, smoother engine. The museums example of this beautifully-made machine, in effect a light motor cycle, is in very good condition indeed, having been in use until recently. There will be no more, the tooling having been sold to India.
