Lot 22: Triumph TR3A

Superseding the TR2 in 1955, the TR3 was easy to distinguish from its forebear by the revised grille. The rugged wet-liner engine now developed 95bhp and the sturdy construction of the TR was a prime factor for the numerous competition successes the model was to achieve. From late 1956, a stronger roller-bearing rear axle had been standardised and options included an occasional rear seat and front disc brakes. Such was the demand overseas that home deliveries of the TR3 totalled less than 10 percent, hence the models scarcity today. The final version of the 'traditional' TRs  the TR3A  ran from 1958 until 1961, sporting a full width grille and exterior door handles, and it is a 1959 example on offer here. Finished in the traditional colour of Signal red, the car was first registered in Cornwall and retains its original registration number. Reported to have been the subject of an extensive restoration three years ago, it is very well presented and is said to drive 'as a good TR3 should'. The engine has been overhauled in the past and the cooling system has the benefit of an electric fan. The vehicle is now offered for sale due to an imminent move to Spain and documentation includes a V5C and a recently renewed MOT certificate.
