Lot 129: Jaguar XJ SC Cabriolet
When the E-Type went out of production in 1975, for the first time in their history, Jaguar were left without a convertible in their range. This state of affairs would remain unchanged until the protests raised by American dealers reached a crescendo and Jaguar introduced the XJS C in 1984.
The XJS-C actually left the Jaguar factory as a coupe, which was then converted into a Cabriolet by Tickford. The model was one of the first to use the new AJ6 engine but it was also available in V12 form. The model was produced from 1984 to 1988 when the full convertible became available. The XJS-C is a rare Jaguar by any measure and in manual, 3.6 form, is reasonably economical.
The specimen offered here has been the subject of a very serious restoration, which cost the owner over �60,000.00 (sixty thousand pounds), which is fully documented in the history file. Offered from a private collection of the deceased owner, the car was stripped down to its component parts and then rebuilt to better than original standards. The interior has been fully retrimmed in leather, including fitting of the rear seats, which were not fitted as standard, du to American safety legislation. The Targa tops and rear hood have also been renewed and even the door cards and quarter panels are finished in the same cream leather.
Described as an outstanding example, this XJS-C is finished in metallic Bordeaux with cream leather and mulberry piping, It is offered complete with full service history by way of a fully stamped service booklet, all previous MoT certificates, full photographic record of the rebuild, the original factory brochure and an insurance valuation, by Towergate, for �15,000.
The motor car is currently showing a warranted 77,995 miles and was last service at 77,113 miles.
