Lot 186: 1990 Toriser Prototype Electric Moped
Professor Fritz Ehn Motorcycle Museum Collection, Bonhams (30th June 2008)
This practical, bicycle-based E-moped is one of a small series developed by Dr. Toriser of the Vienna Technical University as part of his investigations into electric propulsion. Used in a series of tests and participated in trials and rallies for electric vehicles, it proved to be most successful. The Toriser is front-wheel drive, using a steering-head motor and belt-drive through a heavy-duty tyre. The battery case is frame-mounted and control is by handlebar voltage unit. The bicycle is in excellent condition with a three-speed Torpedo hub and back-pedal brake. Full lighting equipment is present and there seems to be no reason why, given a battery charge, this unique machine should not resume its eco-friendly activities. Documentation is not needed at present.
