Lot 133: TVR Chimera
TVR were producing sports cars at their Blackpool premises since 1958 but it was only in the latter years that the company became a major player in the sports car world. The days of the Kit Car image were long gone and the cars of the 1990's onwards, from this small manufacturer, now competed with the likes of Porsche on the world stage. Unfortunately TVR closed the Blackpool factory in 2007 after being sold to a Russian millionaire, Nikolai Smolenski and problems with locating a new premises. After many up's and downs during the previous 5 decades it looked like the end for TVR production in the UK. The TVR offered here is a 1998 4.0 Chimera, which has covered a warranted 16,100 miles in the hands of a single owner. Finished in Cherry Pearl with butterscotch hide, the car is in the condition one would expect of of such a low mileage example. The car is equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission, power steering and air conditioning. The 4.0 V8 offers huge amounts of torque and power, giving the model outstanding levels of performance and that unmistakable TVR sound. Offered with both keys and a stamped service booklet the car is both taxed and MoT'd through to April 2012.
