Lot 201: Jaguar 420 Saloon
Jaguar Heritage Auction, Barons (11th June 2006)
First seen in 1966, the Jaguar 420 remained in production for only two and a half years, before being replaced by the ,all new, XJ6. With only 7172 rhd and 2629 lhd examples being built, the 420 is one of the rarest Jaguar saloons ever built. With the S-Type as a basis, the 420 shared the superb independent rear suspension with the MKX and E-Type, the engine was the ultimate development of the XK, which powered Jaguar cars for a further 27 years and the interior appointments rivalled far more expensive Marques. This 1967 example is said to be in excellent order and complete with an extensive (2" thick) history file. The file contains MoT's dating back 24 years, previous tax discs from 1971 and a host of receipts.Finished in BRG with suede green leather, the car is equipped with a stainless exhaust system and has recently benefited from an overhaul of the brake servo. Said to have covered only nominal mileage between MoT tests and to have had the underside oil sprayed every year, the car is described as being very sound with only minor repairs to the crows feet having been required. The vendor reports that this 420 provided very comortable and wholly reliable transport during a recent holiday to Devon, during which it attracted much interest.
