Lot 129: Mercedes-Benz 250CE Coupe

First seen in 1968, the new 250 Saloon and Coupe were easily distinguished by the vertical, one piece headlamp arrangement. The Coupe was a Pillarless design but was mechanically identical to the saloon. The engine was the trusty straight six, 7 bearing, 150bhp unit, which gave the coupe a top speed of 115mph in manual form, with a four-on-the-floor transmission and slightly less in the optional, three speed, automatic form.Offered here is a , rare in the UK, 250CE, automatic, Pillarless Coupe. The car has been in the ownership of two gentlemen from 1972 to 1981 and from 1981 to 1996 when it was inherited by the daughter of the second owner.Finished in white with black leather and walnut dash, the car is described as being very good order throughout. It is said to have covered a warranted 81300 miles in 34 years and is offered with service history in support. The car is equipped with a System4 fuel catalyst, electric sunroof and windows, stereo (original radio with car) and has recently benefited from new brakes pads and overhauled calliper's. The history file contains invoices totalling over £7,700 since 1992 and include details of replacing both front wings, plus associated body and paintwork, totally rebuilding the cylinder head (2005), plus many bills for regular service and maintenance, which alone, amount to over £3000 .A late example of the 114 Coupe, which, in the UK, were sold in very limited numbers during their 4 year production life (1968-1972).
