Lot 412: 1980 Honda 248cc RS
Pioneer, Vintage & Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (27th April 2008)
The ‘250’ class of machines has always been one of Honda’s great strengths, always with a range from sound, unexciting models to the sportier end of the spectrum. The RS 250 range is definitely one of the sportiest. Introduced in 1980 it used virtually the same 4-valve ohc motor as the XL 250, mounted in a light and very stylish frame with such touches as good-quality alloy wheel-rims. Easy to start and revving willingly, the RS is known for its ability to whistle up to 80+ mph without turning a hair while returning over 70 per gallon, efficient stopping via good disc brakes guaranteed. With an RS, the ride to work became as enjoyable as it got. This 13,000 mile example is in very good order, with Motad exhaust, and is being sold by its septuagenarian owner who reckons he now needs less excitement! It has an Mot and handbook, and is taxed and ready to go.
