Lot 162: Jaguar S2 XJ12 Saloon
Classic Cars, Barons (1st August 2006)
After 5 years in production the XJ6/XJ12 received a facelift and the Series Two was introduced. The most obvious cosmetic change over the original car was the raising of the front bumper, which also meant that the radiator grill was shallower. Other changes were less obvious but included a redesigned interior, better ventilation, more power and extra rear leg room, with all cars now being built with the longer-wheelbase body. This early Series Two is said to have been in the care of only two owners from new and is believed to have covered only 37,000 miles in 32 years. The car was acquired by the vendor on 11th July 1985 and has always been garage kept when not in use. The car is complete with MoT certificates from 1986, has benefited from an Ultraburn unleaded conversion and a stainless steel exhaust. With an all alloy, 5.3 litre, V12 under the bonnet, pushing out 285bhp, enviable ride quality, which no other manufacturer could match and luxurious appointments, the XJ12 deserved the accolade of "The Best Car in the World". This example would appear to offer "The Best Value in the World".
