Lot 372: 1956 Excelsior 98cc Consort
Collectors' Motor Cars and Motorcycles, Bonhams (15th November 2006)
Excelsior graduated from cycle production to motorcycles and were indeed pioneers in the industry at the turn of the 19th/20th century. During World War II they built the Welbike scooter and post-war motorcycle production centred around lightweight machines, using proprietary engines, primarily by Villiers. The Consort model was powered by the F4 engine from the 1954 season and later by the 6F engine. This machine was first registered in June 1956 in Burton-upon-Trent and comes with its original buff log book. It is smartly presented in green livery and appears to be to original specification in all major respects. It was last taxed to April 1997 and is offered with a Swansea V5C registration document.
