Lot 103: Cadillac Gucci Seville
Classic Americana + Classic & Collectors Motor Car, Barons (22nd July 2008)
The Cadillac name has been around since 1902, when Henry Martin Leland founded the business. A brilliant engineer, Leland had worked for Ford and Oldsmobile before going it alone with his Cadillac "One Lung" runabouts. The famous 30 of 1909 - 1915 soon followed and benefited from a publicity stunt in England in 1908. This involved three Cadillac's, which were stripped down to their component parts, the parts all mixed together and the three cars rebuilt. They all ran perfectly and Cadillac were awarded its first Dewar Trophy. In 1909 Cadillac became a division of General Motors.
This RHD Seville is one of a limited edition, specially commissioned, Gucci model, which sport Gucci fabric on the headrests and armrests, Gucci logo in the headlining and 24k Gold Gucci badges on the dash and centre pillars. The exterior is styled with Gucci fabric around the rear window, Gucci logos on the wheel centres and trunk lid plus a distinctive Gucci mascot on the bonnet.
Thought to be one of only two RHD examples, with the other in Australia, this is a rare car. It is powered by a 5.7 litre V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission and has the usual options one would expect of a Cadillac. The car was stored for 7 years and was recommissioned and MoT tested in Feb 2006, when it had covered 85,696 miles. The car has now covered just 87,000 miles.
Described as being in good condition, the car is offered complete with the original sales catalogue from both Cadillac and Gucci, showing that the model was priced at $22,900 in 1979. The RHD conversion would have added thousands of $$$ to that price.
