Lot 005: 1966 HONDA CB450 'BLACK BOMBER'

News started to filter through to the press during 1964 that Honda were developing a machine to challenge the supremacy of the various British twins. As details emerged it became apparent that Honda were applying many of the lessons learnt on the track to the new machine which featured twin overhead cams and torsion bar valve springs. Once the press were able to test the new machine they found that it was indeed quick, with a 100mph plus performance, equipped to a high standard and well braked although the handling left a little to be desired and revs were required to obtain the performance. This example presented in the traditional black and silver livery with chrome tank panels is described as being in good condition in all respects with no known modifications from the original specification. It is accompanied by the original owners handbook, some spares, copies of road tests relating to the model, old Mot certificates in addition to the current one valid until the 25th January 2009, bills relating to work carried out on the motorcycle, a Swansea V5C and a road fund licence valid until the 31st January 2009. The recorded mileage of 68519 is not warranted but is supported by the ease with which the machine starts and its reliability. A new battery was fitted to the motorcycle in November 2007.
