Lot 123: 1975 Bentley Corniche Convertible
Autosport 2007, Coys (13th January 2007)
The T-Type was a landmark model for Bentley, being the first to have a body of unit construction. This was entirely manufactured of steel with the exception of the bonnet, bootlid and doors which are in aluminium. The model also boasted, again for the first time, four-wheel independent self levelling suspension, in conjunction with disc brakes. The model featured an exceptionally advanced technical specification and in keeping with the traditions of the company no effort or expense was spared in making the model the smoothest yet to leave the factory. The Corniche line was reborn in 1971, in two door saloon and convertible form, both being constructed and trimmed by Mulliner Park Ward Ltd the Coachbuilding subsidiary. The mechanical components were uprated over the standard model and the whole largely hand built, giving these cars a level of quality and feeling of glamour far outstripping the conventional models. OLW 847P was supplied in 1975 by the Jack Barclay dealership and was one of only five cars built that year and one of a total of 77 made between 1971 and 1984. Having been serviced regularly by C & D Coachworks, this fine and regal Bentley benefited from a bare metal re-spray in Balmoral green some 6 years ago. The interior retains its original black hide upholstery and features the rare ebony dash option. It is supplied with a comprehensive history, the V5 logbook, many previous MoT's and bills for service work undertaken.Of all the MPW/ Corniche convertible cars produced the Bentley badged cars are certainly the most desireable and the rarest, the last of the chrome bumper cars now gracing the serious collectors' stable. Here then we offer an excellent example in a traditional colour. Very fine motoring indeed !
