Lot 121: Lamborghini Countach Anniversary

Barons, Classico Italia + Classic Cars, Barons (31st July 2007)

With the Miura Lamborghini had already produced the world's first genuine super car. Powered by a mid-engined 4.0 litre V12 of 385 bhp (in SV trim), the Miura could top 175 mph. When Ferruccio Lamborghini instructed his engineers to develop a successor, his specification sheet was brief but clear - build a mid-engined V12 powered sports car with aluminium body work mated to a space-frame chassis that would be capable of 200 mph. Interior and exterior styling were entrusted to Paolo Gandini at that time working for Bertone. With a chassis designed by Paolo Stanzinis (Maserati Birdcage) the Countach made its public debut at the 1971 Geneva motor show. The ultra low design of the two seater sports car took the world by surprise, especially, of course, the scissor doors, swinging up and forward. Without these doors, it would require a huge area around the car to allow ingress and egress. The design is now a Lamborghini trademark and still features on the latest Murcičlago. 1988 saw the pinnacle of the Countach saga. To celebrate the marque's 25th anniversary a special Countach was launched. Mechanically identical to the 5000 QV, the Countach Anniversary boasted a heavily restyled body work with additional air intakes, scoops and outrageous side skirts. Chrysler had acquired Lamborghini by this time and the Countach gained creatures comfort like electric seats and windows. With just 650 cars made, the Anniversary model became the most popular of the Countach range. Offered here is a stunning, right hand drive, version of an Anniversary Countach, which has covered a mere 30,000kms from new. The motor car is complete with total history from day one, including original purchase invoice and original handbooks. It has benefited from a major service in March of this year and has covered only 1,000 miles since. Finished in metallic blue with light blue/grey hide interior, the car is equipped with the 5.0 V12 engine, which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The car is described as being in outstanding condition throughout.
