Lot 047: Triumph TR6

Triumph freshened up its TR range in 1968 and introduced the Karmann-styled TR6. The TR6 sported a more aggressive body with revised front and rear end styling although the centre section remained the same as the TR4-TR5. The straight-six fuel-injected 150bhp 2,498cc engine also carried over from the previous TR5 model, although after 1972 it was changed for a milder 125bhp unit. Overdrive transmission became standard from 1974, working on 3rd and 4th gears and giving the car long legs for motorway cruising without sacrificing its essentially sporty nature. This 1970 car is said to drive very well with strong performance from the 150bhp engine and good temperature and oil pressure at all times. A new fuel metering unit and fuel pump have recently been fitted. The overdrive gearbox is said to function as it should and has recently been fitted with a new clutch assembly and ring gear. New brake pipes have also been fitted and they are said to work well although, in typical TR style, firm pressure is needed on the pedal. A stainless steel back box is fitted to the exhaust. The chassis and bodywork are rated as "good overall" with evidence of plenty of Waxoil treatment over the years to ward off corrosion. The paintwork is also said to be good apart from some localised microblistering on the bonnet and boot. The red interior contrasts nicely with the white paint and is all said to be in good order as is all the brightwork. The wide rim wheels have been refurbished and are fitted with good tyres all round. The car comes with several invoices for recent work, many old MOT certificates going back 24 years and a Triumph TR6 handbook. Taxed and MOTd until May 2009, it is ready to jump into and drive away today.
