Lot 109: Jensen Interceptor MKI
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (12th February 2008)
The Jensen brothers were producing cars as far back as 1936, yet the total number of cars produced by the company amounts to less than 10,000.Jensen first produced an Interceptor in 1954 using an Austin 4.0 litre engine. This was followed by the 541 and the first V8 powered model, the CV8. Both of these cars used fibreglass bodywork on Jensen's own chassis and both were very capable, if a little quirky, four seater coupes, which were marketed as saloons. The real breakthrough came in 1967 with the all new, Vignale designed, Interceptor. This stunning new car was built from steel but retained a similar chassis to the CV8. It also shared the same Chrysler 383 cubic inch (6.3 litre) V8 engine and Torqueflite automatic transmission. The 67 Interceptor rocketed Jensen into international recognition with stars of stage and screen beating a path to their door. The model went through 3 phases under Jensen control and a 4th in the 1980's but, like the E-Type Jaguar, it is the more delicately treated, MKI, which is the most collectable.Offered here is an early MKI, whjch has recently been recovered, after 15 years in dry storage. The car has been extensively recommissioned and MoT tested and is now presented in excellent condition, requiring only minor cosmetics. The car has benefited from a major engine rebuild, plus a full brake, suspension and steering overhaul, with new or refurbished parts as required. The history file contains a photographic record of the works listed and invoices for work and parts used.Finished in silver with beige interior, the car is eligible for free historic tax and is offered with an MoT through to January 2009.
