Lot 401: 1959 Harley-Davidson Duo Glide
True Greats, Coys (1st December 2005)
Produced in 1959 this bike features a 1200cc third revision of the Harley's air cooled V twin engine, the Pan Head. So called by the shape of the cylinder head rocker covers. It featured many designs incorporated in earlier FL models but has the distinction of having a separately sprung saddle to aid an even smother ride. Rear brakes and hydraulic rear suspension were introduced to this model earlier in 1958 and, coupled with the telescopic front forks, made this the most advanced and comfortable big twin produced by the Milwaukee Factory at this time. This beautifully presented example was imported from the US having been painstakingly restored by Barnet Harley in Texas. Converted to 12 volt, it is as original with the exception of the fitment of a later S&S carburettor. Described as being in excellent order it is supplied with a UK V5 logbook and an MoT until May 2006. A fine example of a truly iconic motorcycle.
