Lot 136: Jaguar MKII 3.4 Saloon
Classic Cars, Barons (1st August 2006)
Restored by its owner over a three and a half year period from 1999 to 2002, this MK has qualified for the Auto Glym National Concours finals no less that 3 times and also qualified for the 2006 heat at Eynsham Hall, where it won 1st place in the Modified and Performance class. This means that the car is considered to be among the best of the best, in show car terms. While the car appears to be totally standard it does benefit from some modifications. These include; the brakes, which have been uprated, suspension, with Koni shocks and uprated springs, uprated interior, with Series 3 XJ6 Vanden Plas seats, which are electric, reclining and fully retrimmed over modified frames. Windows are electric, with XJ6 motors attached directly to the MKII winder mechanism. The engine sports an XJ6 S3 head with the bigger valves and a straight port inlet manifold, which has all been polished to appear more like the original MKII head. Internals have been rebuilt with new pistons, big end shells, bearings, timing chains, tensioners etc.In addition to the nut and bolt rebuild, plus the personal and beneficial modifications, the car has been finished to an exacting standard. The interior is of a similar standard and the car is said to be an excellent driver. The statistics of the car are as follows: 3.4 litre XK engine, 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive, 15" chrome wire wheels, biscuit leather seats, polished veneer dash, dash top, door cappings and window surrounds, woodrim steering wheel, power steering, boot mounted battery, customised engine bay.The history file contains a copy of a 6 page article, featuring this MKII, which was published in the December 2003 issue of Practical Classics Magazine, plus a recent newspaper report referring to the latest Auto Glym competition.
