Lot 008: Jaguar Sovereign 4.0

The new range of Jaguar XJ6 models, powered by a 24-valve straight-six twin-cam AJ6 engine, as used in some models of XJS, was introduced in 1986 and replaced the outgoing XK engined models. The 4-litre version of the AJ6 engine, as fitted to this car, has fuel injection and catalyst and produces 235bhp with silky smoothness and commendable fuel economy. A four-speed automatic gearbox, electric front seats, air-conditioning, alloy wheels and an RDS sound system were all standard fitments, as was the classic walnut and leather lined cabin.This particular car is in daily use and is said to drive beautifully, being an effortless motorway cruiser that the vendor rates as "quieter and more refined than a Rolls-Royce." Looking particularly fetching in a dark, black cherry red, it is also said to have a very nice interior which belies its 91,000 miles. Still with its original handbooks, it has 11 service stamps in the book to date and was last serviced by the owner less than 4,000 miles ago. MOTd until January 2009 and taxed until July 2008, this looks like an awful lot of car at the guide price suggested today.
