Lot 103: Ford Anglia DeLuxe
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (24th March 2009)
The final incarnation of the Anglia, the 105E, was introduced in 1959. Its American-influenced styling included a nose line sweeping down to a slanted grille in between prominent 'eye' headlamps. Its smoothly sloped line there looked more like a 1950s Studebaker than the more aggressive-looking late-'50s American Fords, possibly because its British designers used wind-tunnel testing and streamlining. Like late-'50s Lincoln's and Mercury's the car sported a backward-slanted rear window (so that it would remain clear in rain), a flat roofline (for better rear headroom) and tail-fins, albeit much toned-down from its American counterparts.
The new styling was matched by a new engine, something that the smaller Fords had been needing for some timea 997 cc overhead-valve straight-4 that became known by its "Kent" code name. Acceleration from rest was quite sluggish ,by modern standards, but it was much improved from earlier cars. British Fords also benefited from a four-speed gearbox and electric windscreen wipers. The MacPherson strut independent front suspension used on the 100E was retained.
Offered here is a late 997 deluxe version, which was, until recently, registered to MGM Cars at Elstree Film Studios, Boreham Wood. During MGM's ownership the car is said to have been used in many different TV programmes and period films.
An extremely sound example, it has benefited from nearly £1000.00 worth of recent works and is in excellent mechanical condition. It is also offered complete with an MoT and historic tax through to November 2009.
Early Ford cars are rising in value and the Anglia has also benefited from the association with the Harry Potter movies. With the MGM association added to the excellent condition of this specimen, the car offers great value.
