Lot 47: 1956 Austin A50 Cambridge Deluxe Saloon

Best of British Festival, Bonhams (28th May 2006)

1956 Austin A50 Cambridge Deluxe Saloon
Replacing the traditional separate chassis, unitary construction arrived at Austin in 1954 in the form of the A40 and A50 Cambridge models, powered by B-Series engines of 1.2 and 1.5 litres respectively but otherwise almost identical apart from a higher final drive ratio in the latter’s case. The A40 version did not survive post-1956, and the following year the A50 Cambridge was updated with a usefully bigger boot and little add-on tail fins. It was however, a short-lived model soon replaced by the new Farina-styled Cambridge.
Showing a believed-correct 18,936 miles on the odometer, this unrestored A50 Cambridge has been kept in dry storage since 1981 and comes with an expired MoT for that year recording the mileage at that time as 18,648. The vehicle is offered for restoration and comes with Swansea V5 registration document.
