Lot 105: 1956 Lagonda 3 LitreTickford Saloon
Spring Auction, Coys (20th April 2005)
Like most manufacturers after World War Two, Lagonda was hit by the prevailing economic climate with the result that further development of its pre-war six cylinder and V12 engined cars was no longer viable. W.O. Bentley thus designed a new, lighter car with a more efficient engine and in September 1945, the new 2 Litre saloon was introduced. When the 3 Litre was introduced in 1953, it retained the Mark II's chassis, albeit altered to carry handsome new coachwork from Tickford and with specially balanced propshaft and flexibly mounted final drive. A Mark II saloon with floor gearchange appeared in 1956 but the problems of making two ranges of cars led to AML ending production in February 1958. This car has been owned by a well known German enthusiast and pre war Aston Martin collector for more than 20 years. During his ownership the car has been carefully restored mechanically and cosmetically. This wonderful vehicle presents itself now in very good and largely original condition. It is finished in garnet with tan leather interior and is supplied with German registration papers. This rare vehicle with the original Aston Martin engine and gearbox now returns home to England and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
