Lot 120: Jaguar MKI 3.4 Saloon
Jaguar Heritage + Classic & Collectors Motor Cars, Barons (29th April 2008)
This MKI Jaguar was the 125th 3.4 produced by Jaguar Cars and is probably the oldest still in existence. It also rare in so far as it is a 3.4, which is equipped with drum brakes. Manufactured on 6th May 1957 and dispatched to Henley's Limited, London on 15th May 1957, who supplied it to Wessex Motors Limited in Salisbury who sold it to Mr E A Parsons of Alderbury, Salisbury on 25th May 1957. The original invoice, guarantee and owner's identification card is with the car together with other documentation from that period. The original invoice shows that Mr Parsons paid extra for the Battleship Grey paint and Ace Silver Peak number plates, which retain the original and valuable registration number PAM956 Mr Parsons died in 1985 and the car was transferred into his wife's name. The last MOT was dated May 1986. Mrs Parsons died in 1993 still living at the same address in Alderbury. There are various documents to support the above. The car remained unrestored and original apart from a repaint, probably in the 1970's. Together with two other cars, the Jaguar was auctioned off as part of the estate, acquired by a dealer and was then sold to Mr. Duncan Hopkinson in July 1994. Described as being very sound structurally, the car only needed limited mechanical work and attention to some rust spots on door bottoms and spats. Whatever was needed was done and there are many invoices to support the work. It has been used regularly in the summer covering between 2,000 and 3,000 miles each year. The car has competed in the Jaguar Drivers' Club Annual Rally on a number of occasions winning its class three times. It has also been abroad on Regularity Rallies for the last three years. This is an original, matching numbers MKI, which was equipped with drum brakes and has the desirable manual + overdrive gearbox. A genuine, unrestored car with a marvellous patina of age. Any work on the car has been carried out sensitively, in order to retain the originality of the car.
