Lot 209: Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 Roadster
Barons, Classico Italia + Classic Cars, Barons (31st July 2007)
This is an early 3.8 E-Type roadster, which is probably the most desirable of the E-Types, being the first up-date of the original design with the scooped rear bulkhead, to accommodate taller drivers, and lowered floor pans to allow comfortable distance driving. This car is in outstanding condition, visually standard, apart from Aston Martin, competition specification, chrome wire wheel fitted with 205/70/15 Pirelli tyres. The car has been restored and modified to provide very rapid and reliable road or track, classic motoring. The list of upgrades is significant and includes a 5 speed Getrag gearbox, competition alloy Radiator with Kenlow electric fan, Rob Beere under-slung oil cooler and spin on oil filter, alternator conversion, Cooper Craft 4 pot callipers and vented brake discs, Mintex competition pads, alloy air scoops for rear brake cooling, fully rebuilt front and rear suspension with polly bushes, Gaz shocks and Harvey Bailey roll bars, Eibach springs and Harvey Bailey roll bar and polly bushed track control arms. The engine has been rebuilt to club sport specification and is producing 300bhp. The specification includes an XM3 inlet cam and L14 exhaust cam, big valve head, which is ported and gas flowed, fully balanced rods, pistons, crankshaft and alloy flywheel, uprated oil pump and pick up, uprated water pump, 45D electronic distributor. The car is also equipped with a 57mm Stainless steel, race specification, exhaust with over the frame tubular extraction exhaust manifolds by Haywood and Scott. >This is a truly outstanding E-Type Roadster, which has very sensible upgrades to make it a very usable classic while retaining the, all important, 1961 styling. It would be impossible to recreate this car for twice the reserve.
