Lot 081: 1955 AUSTIN HEALEY 100M SPEC

Work carried out included a respray from Old English White to Primrose Yellow and a rechrome. The 2650cc four-cylinder engine, found to be already to 100M-spec, was fully rebuilt with balanced crankshaft, flywheel and conrods, and big-valve and gas-flowed head from John Chatham. The manifold is a rare Downton twin extractor with two in, one out silencer. The clutch has been renewed, while the gearbox, a later four-speed 3000 Mk1 unit with overdrive, has been rebuilt more recently by Denis Welch. The interior was treated to new seats in red leather, hood replaced and wiring renewed. Interestingly, a previous owner, a Rolls-Royce employee, modified the front suspension with fabricated top link and Koni shock absorbers, added negative camber top trunnions and an anti-tramp link to the rear axle as on the 3000 MkIII. Brakes have been upgraded with 3000 Mk1 discs, servo and larger master cylinder. 72 spoke MGC wires are shod with XAS Michelins. Current condition of both chassis and open bodywork is very good, as are paintwork and trim. The motor is reportedly in good order and transmission and electrics also excellent. RUE 617 is likely to have been freshly MOT tested by sale day, so potential buyers are recommended to check out the latest certificate at Buxton. PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is now MOT'd until May 2006.
