Lot 118: Jaguar D-Type by Realm Engineering

The Spirit of Motoring, Coys (14 May 2011)

DFZ 6218 is a Realm Engineering D-Type Jaguar replica, which was built just over 10 years ago. Realm, a marque now recognised in their own right have gained the approval of many respected Automotive experts and enthusiasts alike. Sir Jack Brabham - who after a 3 hour stint at the wheel during the Innes Ireland Memorial Rally in a D-type commented - that's a damn sight better than the original!. Realm have moved on to produce , Long Nose, Short Nose, with and without fins, single cockpit - in fact the whole range of D-Type variants. Realm also supplied the D-type replica body and chassis kits for the Revival Motorsport executive driving experience, who recognised the accurate detailing and economic sense in choosing their product.

This Long nose D-type on sale today, has covered under 2000 miles since build and is the property of well-known Jaguar author. DFZ 6218 is based on 4.2 manual running gear from a donor 1974 XJ6. Overdrive operates on all forward gears; effectively giving the driver a sporty set of ratios when 'going for it' and a second, more leisurely, set of cogs when driving normally. Combined with a 2.88 differential, the overdrive provides fabulous long-legged cruising (and economy), with 100mph coming at around 3,000 rpm. Despite such long legs, the super light car is still very quick off the mark and it sounds the part with exhaust system that exits at the rear as all long noses should.

Spax adjustable dampers feature all round and the car has a new steering wheel, radiator, 4-pot calipers and Goodrich hoses. It also has new splined D-type wheels and sits on period-correct tyres. The cabin is alloy-lined, with correct dummy regulator and fuse boxes and D-type-faced major instruments. It has great patina and has fresh oil and filter, a dateless registration, with UK Title and is MoT'd tested to September 2010. It comes with new triple twin-choke carburettors and ram pipes, for fitment by buyer. Offered with a very realistic reserve and estimate, this is the best value D-type on the market today.
