Lot 118: Aston Martin V8 Series 3
Classic Collectors & Historic Cars, Barons (11th December 2007)
First seen in the late sixties, the William Towns designed DBS was originally launched with the 4.0, straight six from the DB6 because of production problems with the, all new, Tadek Marek designed, all alloy V8 engine. It would be 1969 before the 5.3 litre DBSV8 was officially launched. The early cars came with Bosch/Lucas fuel injection, which proved to be troublesome, difficult to set up and impossible to comply with American emissions and was dropped in 1973.From April 1972 the DBS V8 received a mild restyle and a new name. The 'DB' was dropped as David Brown had sold the company, for 1 sterling, to Company Developments and the car became known simply as the 'Aston Martin V8'. The most visible change was the adoption of two 7 inch quartz iodine headlamps and black mesh grille, the design of which was the work of the original designer. The fuel injected engine was retained for a year until a return to traditional Weber carburettors in 1973. Production of the V8 stopped for a while from late 1974, when AML was in receivership, before being rescued and recommencing production in the Spring of 1976.Offered here is an excellent example of the Series 3 V8 automatic saloon, which is finished in Dubbonet Rosso with beige leather. The car is offered complete with a comprehensive file of bills amounting to 30,000 plus, a photographic record of a bare alloy repaint and extensive maintenance history.Described as being an excellent drive with tremendous performance, the car has benefited from careful ownership and comes with MoT through to September 2008 and tax through to March.
