Lot 05: Alvis TA14

'The Brooklands Tradition' Vintage & Thoroughbred, BCA (5th June 2008)

The TA14 was introduced in 1946 and was to continue the theme established with the 12/70 of the immediate pre-war years. Powered by a 1.9-litre 4-cylinder engine developing 68bhp, the TA14 was available in saloon and drophead coup versions and competitively priced for a car in its class, with the saloon listed at 1,276 including purchase tax. The specification included Girling mechanical brakes and all fixtures and furnishings were of a standard befitting this manufacturer. The motoring press were enthusiastic about the TA14 on its launch and contemporary road tests showed a maximum speed of 74mph with acceleration from 0-50mph being achieved in 15 seconds, whilst fuel consumption ranged between 22 and 27mpg. By the time production ceased in 1950 with the advent of the 3-litre TA21 Series, some 3,213 TA14s had been produced.A 1949 model, the example presented here is finished in green with matching leather trim and is understood to have been sympathetically refurbished approximately fifteen years ago. It has been in the current ownership for around five years and is now offered for sale due to a Vintage project taking much of the owner's time.
