Lot 09: TVR 350i CONVERTIBLE

With the introduction of the Tasmin in 1980, TVR moved from the curvy styling derived from the Grantura to a bold wedge style penned by Oliver Winterbottom, who had been responsible for the Lotus Elite and Eclat.� The new car had the M-Series chassis, albeit with an extra four inches, and Jaguar-derived independent rear suspension.� Initially powered by the Ford V6 and 2-litre four, following the Peter Wheeler take-over a deal was forged with BL to supply engines and in the quest for more power the cars were made available with the 3.5-litre V8.� By 1984, the Tasmin name had been dropped and the range consisted of the 280i and 350i with Ford and Rover power respectively.� Although the coup� version was continued, cars with the V8 option were more often than not supplied in the more attractive convertible format with a 5-speed gearbox.� These, and subsequent developments of the 'wedge cars', did much to change TVR from a producer of niche sports cars to a company with a much more 'muscular' image.This 1984 example is finished in red with black trim and colour-coordinated lattice alloy wheels.� It is described as being in good original condition throughout and said to be a fine example of the marque and an excellent driving car.� Having been in one owner's hands for the last nine years, the bodywork and paint are described as in excellent original condition, though it is noted that the bumpers would benefit from some refurbishment.Supplied is the original handbook pack, a substantial file of history and bills, a current MOT valid to September 2008 and the V5C registration document.
