Lot 32: Rolls-Royce SILVER CLOUD
Classic & Historic Automobile, BCA (2nd October 2007)
At its introduction in 1955, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, together with its sister car, the Bentley 'S' Series, were to represent a milestone in the company's history, being the last models to be powered by the 6-cylinder, 4.9-litre engine which was shared with the Silver Wraith. The new Silver Cloud also boasted improved handling characteristics due to the increased rigidity of the chassis and featured coil and wishbone independent front suspension and revised braking. Although the majority carried the standard steel factory coachwork, coachbuilt models were still available and amongst the most pleasing and elegant were the long wheelbase Hooper saloons.Chassis number ALC12 was originally dispatched to Hooper's in order to be fitted with the 4-door, 6-light saloon coachwork, design type 8504. This styling was aesthetically extremely pleasing, with the long flowing front wings which featured small shrouds over the headlamps. The styling overall echoed the 'Empress Line' Daimlers, which were a classic Hooper design. During the current ownership of around five years, the motor car is understood to have undergone extensive restoration work at considerable expenditure. In its livery of black and beige, its elegant lines are shown to great advantage whilst the beige hide upholstery has recently been renewed, as have the carpets and headlining. We are informed that the car is in very good mechanical order though it has seen minimal use during the last few years, the exhaust system having been replaced. The vendor advises us that the vehicle has had just three previous owners and that the recorded mileage, which currently stands at 47,828, is believed correct.Documentation includes a file of bills and details of long wheel base Silver Cloud models including chassis numbers, coach builders, ownership details etc., together with the original logbook, previous MOT certificates and current V5. The motor car is to be presented for sale with a recently renewed MOT certificate.
