Lot 1417: Peugeot Moped

Now perhaps best known as a French car manufacturer, Peugeot started producing engines for both two and four wheels way back in 1899. The Norton that won the very first TT in 1907 was in fact powered by a Peugeot engine. The factory did very well in competition and produced a whole range of models of varying capacity until the Second World War. From then on they concentrated, like many other European factories in producing cheap utilitarian lightweight 50cc machines that were affordable to the masses. By the time the sixties came they were better known for their cars, but continued with mopeds mainly for sale in their home country. However, they now produce a whole range of modern 'twist and go' style scooters that are among the best on the market. The model on sale dates from the mid-sixties and is a good example of the styling of the time, being mainly enclosed to make it appeal to both sexes. This is a UK registered machine and should take little work to get back on the road having been in full working order prior to be laid up.It is certainly a fine example of the French moped market in the sixties and would look well in either a motor museum or one displaying modern art.
