Lot 43: Ford SIERRA SAPPHIRE COSWORTH

In the 1960s there was Lotus and the Cortina. In the 1970s Ford kept most of their motor sport to themselves with the successful RS Escort programmes at Borehamwood. However, they had long had a partnership with Cosworth for engine development, most famously with the Cosworth built DVF, an engine that in its various guises won over 150 Grand Prix whilst the Indy Car DFX version had a similar amount of success. Despite the input into Ford's highly successful rally programme, it was not until 1986 that a Cosworth-badged saloon was to appear in the form of the 2-litre turbocharged Sierra. The original 3-door Sierra Cosworth with its distinctive rear wing was highly successful on both track and stage. By 1988, the Pinto-derived YBB Cosworth engine, with Garrett AirResearch T03B turbocharger, endowed supercar performance to the more discreet 4-door shell  initially with 205bhp but later improved to 220bhp  in the form of the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth.Originally supplied to King Hussein of Jordan, this 1990 example is finished in metallic grey with a black leather interior and described as being in excellent condition throughout, having covered less than 27,000 miles from new and benefiting from both regular maintenance and professional valeting. Supplied with the car are its service history and every MOT certificate to validate the mileage, along with the current certificate valid to February next year, road fund licence and a V5 document. Rarely does the opportunity to acquire such a well-kept and genuine example of such an iconic Q-car present itself.
