Lot 129: Triumph TR6

The TR6 can trace its lineage back to the four-cylinder TR4, TR4A, TR3/TR3A and TR2. The styling of the TR6 is more aggressive than its predecessors, because Michelotti was too busy to design it, so the task went to the German styling house, Karmann instead. The Triumph TR6 was the best-selling Triumph in history when production ended in 1976. In later years it was surpassed by the TR7 but more than 94,000 TR6s were built, WITH 90% going to North America The model was quite refined, for a sports car. It featured pile carpet on the floor and in the boot , plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. In the USA, it featured the six-cylinder engine that was carried over from the TR250, while the UK version had a more powerful engine from the TR5 which was equipped with the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system. Offered here is a 1974 example, which was the subject of a total restoration, by TR Enterprises, in 1993 and has covered a mere 11,800 miles since. The car is described as being in Condition One throughout, with a detailed engine bay and superb interior. Finished in yellow with tan interior, the car has the 2.5 litre, straight six engine, which is mated to a four speed, manual transmission and is said to drive as well as it looks.
