Lot 327: 1930 Ford Model A Coupe
True Greats, Coys (5th December 2007)
With the development of the sturdy, low-priced Model T in 1908, Henry Ford made his company the biggest in the automotive industry, and by 1914 the moving assembly line enabled Ford to produce far more cars than any other company. Introduced in October 1927, but not sold until December 2, the Ford Model A was to be the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company, replacing the venerable Model T which had been produced for 18 years. This new Model A (a previous model had used the Model A name back in 1903) was designated as a 1928 model and was available in four standard colours, but not black. The transmission was a three speed sliding gear unit with reverse ratio and the car had four wheel mechanical drum brakes. Originally delivered to New Zealand, this little two seat coupe was manufactured in 1930 and imported to Scotland in 2002. A right-hand drive car, it is described as being in very good condition and a sprightly driver, with 60mph cruising easily available with the 3.3 litre, four cylinder engine which is in good order. The car is supplied with a V5 registration document, old MoT test certificates and a current certificate valid for a year. The two-tone burgundy and black paintwork is also in good condition and the beige velour trim is reported to be in fine fettle. This well appointed coupe looks great and drives well.
