Lot 250: Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster

Collectors Motor Cars, Bonhams (18th September 2009)

This stunning looking E-Type roaster has been subtly modified along the lines of the factory's original lightweight competition cars. The accompanying JDHT certificate reveals that the car was manufactured in left-hand drive configuration and delivered new via Jaguar Cars, New York, USA to its first owner, James E Piercefield of Michigan, USA. Imported into the UK from Illinois in 2003, it was acquired as a part-completed project by the current vendor in 2005. Since then the car has been fully reconditioned, including an engine rebuild, and numerous modifications made. Only a minimal mileage has been covered since the project's completion. Features in the style of the original lightweights include a de-seamed boot area, vented hardtop and boot, de-chromed body, Perspex headlight covers, 'Le Mans' louvres behind the front wheelarches, C-Type 'Dunlop' wheels, 'Monza' fuel cap and lightweight-specification boot latch. Breathing via triple Weber carburettors, the engine features a six-branch manifold and stainless steel sports exhaust system and has been completely rebuilt to suit a practical fast road car, incorporating a lightened aluminium flywheel and high-flow oil and water pumps. Other noteworthy under-bonnet features include a braided fuel rail; bespoke high-efficiency aluminium radiator with high speed fan; aluminium header tank and brackets; lightweight high-torque starter motor; lightweight alternator; Fuel King fuel regulator; Champion spark plug covers with chrome HT lead separator; and a Kevlar hose set. Much modified and improved, the suspension incorporates Koni Classic adjustable shock absorbers; adjustable front torsion bar; altered front geometry; and Polybush 'fast road' bushes. The brakes have been upgraded with vented front discs and Coopercraft calipers, while the independent rear suspension and rear hubs have been rebuilt. The car is finished in silver with blue leather interior, the latter featuring original '4.2' seat frames, Luke racing seat harness and a bespoke gearlever cover. Additional items of note include an aluminium fuel cell with Facet 'fast road car' fuel pump; halogen headlights; and Hi-Lo tone horns. Described as in generally excellent condition, 'HFA 675' is offered with current road fund licence, MoT to July 2020 and Swansea V5.
