Lot 410: 1988 Ferrari 412

Fine Motor Cars and the Jaguar Legend, Coys (14 July 2007)

Ferrari took some time to come into the four-seat market although Aston Martin, de Tomaso, Lamborghini and Maserati had established that there was a niche for such a car. When Ferrari did decide to make a real four-seat car, it seems to have shaken up Pininfarina. Presented with the problem of styling a large car with a sporting pedigree, however, they pulled out all the stops. The result is timeless elegance - there are no other words as suitable to describe it. Note the way that the large circular rear lights contrast with the otherwise severe rear panel. Note the way the Ferrari badge is placed on the car: it is discreet, but placed in such a way as to announce its presence to other road users. The beauty of its design is its infinite subtlety. The model went through many phases, starting life as the 365GT4 and ending as the 412i; it was as beautiful on the day it ended as on the day it first began. This 1988 example is in very good condition having covered only 31,750 miles from new. Supplied with a full service history and old MoTs this car has been well maintained throughout its life. The car is finished in a striking metallic black with a cream leather interior. Completing the car is the original owner's manual and service book, V5, current MoT valid until April and various invoices and bills. Recently, in April of this year, £1,000 has been spent on parts and in 2006 new brake discs and pads were fitted. The car has an immobiliser and Pioneer stereo fitted. The ultimate grand tourer with timeless Pininfarina styling.
