Lot 426: 1999 Plymouth Prowler Roadster

Fine Motor Cars and the Jaguar Legend, Coys (14 July 2007)

Chrysler's current retro-styled PT Cruiser received rave reviews on its release for its modern interpretation of the classic American 'hot rod'. In the late 1990s, however, the Plymouth Prowler was born, a much more literal homage being paid to the custom machines of the 1950s and '60s. At its launch, Plymouth stated that the Prowler was a development of the Dodge Viper; it was the next step in the process of developing new methods of manufacture and assembly to lower the cost of a vehicle. The corporation did not care if it made money, simply breaking even being considered unlikely as the Prowler was to be an experimental vehicle testing out even more advanced methods of assembly, such as aluminium and composite bonding. The Prowler was undoubtedly a styling departure for the company, and succeeded in attracting levels of publicity of which it could hardly have dared hope. Only a small number of these exclusive cars has found its way to Europe, making them a rare and very eye catching sight on the roads of the Continent. Imported from the Unites States' and registered in Great Britain in 2005, this car is described as being in excellent all round condition by the vendor. With a USA history and recent UK service history, the car comes with its correct owner's manual, V5 logbook, road tax and MoT test certificate, as well as original build specification and importation papers. This stunning example is presented in red with a grey leather trim and original factory alloy wheels. To further cement the quality of this superb example, the optional extras include air conditioning, cruise control, a tiptronic gearbox and radio/CD. Factory-built custom cars are indeed a rare item in the modern day world of car production, and this is a great opportunity to purchase a low mileage (26,000), very fine example of a truly 20th century Hot Rod.
