Lot 385: c.2000 Honda CB50 49cc Dream R2 Racing Motorcycle
Probably the ultimate retro tribute made by any manufacturer, these jewel-like miniature Hondas echoed the makers CR 110 single-cylinder 50 racers of the 1960s. Employing similar DOHC valve layout, these tiny bikes were outclassed by Suzukis shrieking two-strokes in international races but were otherwise hugely successful. Compared to the CR 110s eight speeds and 8.5 brake horsepower at 13,500 rpm, the re-created Dream had six speeds and 7.0 bhp at an astonishing 14,500rpm, the decreases (some decreases!) being engineered in the interests of customer reliability. This Honda marks a first for Bonhams at Stafford being, quite literally, Brand New In the Box, never having been taken from the packaging and the first time we have presented such an opportunity. It is the much more rare racing version, devoid of its brothers road equipment and extra weight. 1000666 is complete, of course, with all of its ex-factory material including the parts-list and instruction book. The chances of another of these being found still in its packaging must be vanishingly small and this may thus represent a unique chance to buy such a machine.
