Lot 05: Ford Dorchester MKVI Limousine

Cars, H&H Sales Limited (9 June 2010)

Ford launched its new big executive saloon in 1972 to replace the Zephyr MkIV; top versions were badged Consul until 1975, when all versions took the name Granada. With all-round independent suspension and an impressive choice of trim options and engines, it was marketed clearly as a competitor to BMW's large 3-litre E3 and later E12 saloons. A 'MkII' square-edged reskin in 1977 sharpened up the looks in keeping with fashion, and at the same time the 'Cologne' 2.8 litre V6 engine became the top engine option, replacing the 3-litre Essex, since all cars were by then built in Germany. The well-respected Granada was used as the basis for Dorchester limousines by Coleman Milne and hearses by Woodall Nicholson. Coleman Milne had been founded by John Coleman and Roderick Milne in 1953, at first specialising in vehicle body repairs and horse boxes, but quickly finding a niche in using those skills to create limousines and funeral hearses

Finished in black with blue velour cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its 2.8 litre V6 engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment and interior trim, while he rates the bodywork and paintwork as "good". Said to be the last Mk6 on his fleet that the second of its two funeral director owners chose to replace, 'FFV 968Y' has come straight out of service and is being entered into auction by the company that built it. Stated to have covered just 46,000 miles from new, the long-wheelbase limousine is apparently accompanied by all MOTs since 1992 and service history dating back to the same year. Boasting a sliding glass division, AM/FM radio, folding jump seats and its correct wheel trims, this low-mileage Dorchester is offered for sale with handbook, service book, operating instructions for the rear suspension, MOT certificate valid until April 2011 and road fund licence valid until 30th June 2010.
