Lot 236: Ford Granada Ghia Coupé

Classic Cars, Charterhouse (17 April 2011)

The Granada range was launched in 1972with a four door saloon and swooping two doorcoupé, which was only available initially on theContinent. UK car buyers had to wait until 1974to experience the range topping Ghia coupé.Powered by the 3 litre Essex V6 engine mated tothe C3 three speed auto gearbox, gave effortlessperformance with a top speed of 110 mph and a 0-60 mph of eleven seconds when new. The Ghiacoupé is a very rare sight on the roads today withperhaps only a couple of hundred survivorsremaining from the production run of approximately 9600. This Ghia coupé has been thesubject of a full bare metal restoration, carried outby the leading Granada restoration companyCARR (Classic Auto Restoration & Repair) andhas been features in Classic Ford on two occasions(July 2009 & May 2010). HTT 710N rolled off the production line in 1974 and was registered toits first Devon owner in 1975, a director of a localproperty company. The supplying dealer beingHughes Ford of Exeter. Finished in the 'oh soseventies' colour combination of flame orangewith a tobacco brown vinyl roof, whichcomplements the 'shagtastic' velour and wood trimto a tee. Further luxury refinements found on theflagship Ford are a steel sunroof, original Fordover mats, leather trimmed steering wheel and theretro digital clock. During the restoration thedecision was taken to install a four speed manualgearbox. This was a period factory option butvery few customers 'ticked' that option box, preferring the lazy automatic. HTT 710N has agood history file with receipts, old MOTs and thetwo magazine articles featuring the restoration. The vendor says that the Ghia coupé captures thatretro cool vibe and epitomises the paisley pattern, kipper tie and flares era better than any other carfrom that period. This professional restored Ghiacoupé must surely be one of the very bestsurvivors and offers the next owner a rareopportunity to indulge their seventies dream.V5C, MOT to August 2011, taxed to July 2011
