Lot 1341: Vincent Rapide C and Steib 501 Combination
In the same rider ownership for the last 40 years the Leicester registered JJF 125 was initially purchased as a solo machine with a Watsonian sidecar added later, the opportunity to purchase the Steib 501 came in the 1990's and it was added with a short top link, the resulting outfit still looks extremely fine today. The vendor informs us that just over 11,000 miles have been covered since a thorough rebuild in the 1970's with the majority of the work carried out by marque specialist Tony Maughan whilst Bob Dunn was responsible for the lead free conversion to the heads. Improvements to the bike consist of an outrigger kit for the front brake, Shadow brake drums all round, the iconic 5inch Shadow 150mph speedo', automatic anti wet sump valve, new BTH magneto, alloy front brake plates and 12v conversion to the dynamo, whilst the Steib sidecar benefits from a hydraulic brake, hood and tonneau cover. A member of the VOC for 50 years the vendor states that this is a matching numbers machine with a sidecar that was used in the Dr Who series with Sylvester McCoy and Bonnie Langford, poor health now dictates the sale and the history file contains 17 MOT's and receipts for parts and services along with V5C documentation and the, now no longer required, expired MOT from 28th June this year. An enviable outfit described as very good in all respects and fit to grace any stable of serious British machines.
